INTERVIEW: Christina Moses
March 31, 2008 by Admin
Hey! This is Jay your friendly neighborhood Vulkon Marketing shill…just taking a moment out of our busy schedule to bring out yet another one of these podcasts that people are expressing a genuine interest in…we’re excited to be able to do this kind of thing and will continue to bring you all more and more of what’s going on in the world of sci-fi and fantasy from the newsmakers themselves……Joining me on the phone is Christina Moses, she’s the extremely talented freshman actress who is best known to fans as the daughter of Hikaru Sulu in the New Voyages, now called Star trek Phase II, episode entitled “WORLD ENOUGH AND TIME”. Christina thanks for joining us, how are you?
I’m well thank you.
We’re so excited to be talking to you.
Awww that’s great, thank you…(laughs)
No, thank you…let’s get right into it. Is this your first major role?
Yes…it is…on film, yes.
That’s great! So how exactly how were you approached to do ‘New Voyages’?
Oh boy, um…well, the lead actress had to back out for whatever reason and they were on like a mad scramble. And I found out through a friend of a friend who was connected to Mark Zicree who’s the writer/director. So I got this email and they said: ‘but you know there casting for this show…please, you know, send your information as soon as possible…and I did and then I went for the audition and…got it two days later.
Okay well had you known much (if anything) about Star Trek before ‘New Voyages’?
…Nothing…(laughs) I’m sorry to say (laughs).
We’re talking to Christina Moses, the actress who plays ‘Alana Sulu’ from the New Voyages, now Star Trek Phase II episode “WORLD ENOUGH AND TIME”. Now, we just watched the episode at my local Star Trek fan club meeting a few weeks ago and - I gotta tell you, of everyone in that episode with the exception of George Takei, your performance was unbelievable.
Oh wow, thank you. I really appreciate that, that…is good to hear.
So what kind (if any) formal training have you had?
Not much. I mean…it’s something that I’ve done ever since I was I guess, in high school - junior high/high school. It was just another…release for me. I was a painter. I’m very, you know, creative and artistic by nature and when I found it junior high, I was like, ‘oh this is awesome…and I just, you know, did a bunch of school plays and then I went on to college at UCFC and I continued to do main stage plays there. And then I moved to New York to be in New York. About three years later undergrad and after teaching, I missed it so much so I got back into theater and got involved in community theater and we went on to do some off Broadway shows and theater festivals and…that’s when I started to dabble in the idea of taking it professionally. Just did little commercials here and there and so it’s been fairly good for the past two and half years. You know…slow…aside from Star Trek I did another independent feature. SAG Feature. Um, a horror film (laughs) that should be coming out next year.
Really? What’s that called?
Well right now I think the working title is ‘Machete Joe’. I have no idea if they’re gonna change it. But that was a lot of fun. (Laughs) I run around screaming all the time.
Do you think that you may stick with the sci-fi genre like many other stars have done over the years? Y’know kind of ride that niche for all its worth?
I have no idea because actually I haven’t auditioned for one single sci-fi since. But if it comes my way, absolutely.
Tell me what it was like to be working alongside sci-fi icon and screen legend George Takei?
Amazing. So precious. I mean really he’s one of the most compassionate and kind and truly humble people that I’ve ever - I mean authentically humble human beings that I’ve ever met in my life. And of course super professional. I don’t even want to say ‘of course’ because there are…you know, quote unquote professional actors out there…who may not conduct themselves professionally. It’s a joy and it’s an inspiration to work alongside that because I am so new to film and television. He had more energy than I think all of us combined (laughs)
We’re talking to Christina Moses, the actress who plays ‘Alana Sulu’ from the New Voyages, now Star Trek Phase II episode “WORLD ENOUGH AND TIME”. You know I gotta tell you that I truly from the bottom of my heart hope that you can join us for a future Vulkon.
I would love to thank you.
Well Christina that’s all the time we have for now but rest assured that all of us here at Vulkon and VulkonLIVE! As well as the entire community will be watching out for you to make it big because we think the world of you and wish you all the best of luck in the future and hope to see you in something bigger and more mainstream in the future.
I hope so. Thank you very much I appreciate it.
