Jericho Up in Smoke

CBS’ post-apocalypse drama Jericho has been canceled for a second and final time, E! News reports. The network has announced that the series finale of the show starring Skeet Ulrich as a mysterious man leading a group of survivors in a small American town after a nuclear attack will air Tuesday night (March 25th). Jericho had been canceled after its first season, but CBS made the highly unusual decision to resurrect the series for a seven-episode second season after a large-scale write-in campaign by the show’s dedicated fans. But Jericho, which averaged 9.2 million viewers for its 23-episode inaugural run, could only muster an average viewership of 6.8 million this time around.
- CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler said in a statement, “Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program; we simply wish there were more. We thank an engaged and spirited fan base for keeping the show alive this long, and an outstanding team of producers, cast and crew.”
- Jericho did become a hit in one area, becoming one of the most-watched shows on CBS’ online service Innertube. The second-season premiere also sold more than 700,000 copies via iTunes, making it one of the digital service’s most downloaded shows.
