As it turns out Writer/Producer/Creator, David E. Kelley who has brought us the likes of Ally McBeal, The Practice, and my personal fav Boston Legal has acquired rights to the UK scifi show ‘Life on Mars’. According to an article from the BBC, Kelley has written a pilot script and ABC (no big surprise there) has pledged to pick it up for at least a full season run.
I guess when you bring them a slam dunk hit like Boston Legal, you get to tread where you’ve never trod before. The program originally starred John Simm, who fans will recall played ‘The Master’ in last seasons finale of ‘Doctor Who’, and Philip Glenister when it was originally shown in the UK.
O’Mara will take Simm’s role as a modern-day police officer who is transported back to the 1970s.
The original version of Life on Mars won a Bafta last year and the finale of the show was seen by more than seven million people in April 2007.
It spawned a sequel - Ashes to Ashes, set in the 1980s - starring Glenister, who has now signed up to appear in a second series.
Who knows if we’ll adopt the second series into any possible US version.
