Burn Gorman in Oliver!

June 4, 2008 by Admin · Leave a Comment

Torchwood star Burn Gorman has been confirmed in the role of Bill Sikes in the upcoming West End production of Lionel Bart’s Oliver!. Torchwood guest star Julian Bleach will also be appearing, as Mr Sowerberry. The production is due to open at London’s Theatre Royal Dury Lane in December.

This is actually the second of many such conversions with well known genre actors going back to the medium’s (acting) roots, theatre. This comes right on the heels of an announcement that David Tennant (Doctor Who) will be performing in Hamlet alongside Patrick Stewart (Star Trek: TNG).

Patrick Stewart on ‘Picard’ and ‘Macbeth’

April 7, 2008 by Admin · Leave a Comment

How many ways can I spell classy that don’t include the name Patrick Stewart? I mean, as Trek stars go this guy is all class and just as much gravitas as they come. In my estimate he’s as well known as Shatner and probably as iconic where Trek is concerned. An still this guy manages to keep his ego in check. For those of you that don’t know, he’s in ‘Macbeth’ and doing unbelievably well.

Recently he had a chat with the New York Magazine and was asked: “Has playing Jean-Luc Picard taught you anything about Macbeth?” to which, Captain Class replied:

“…I played that character for seven years, 178 episodes week in, week out, four feature films. Those years were very productive, they were very important to me, and they changed my life in every aspect. I am proud of Star Trek: The Next Generation, I am proud of the work we did, and I am proud of the character I played, because I know for a fact he’s been an outstanding role model to people. Is there any of him in Macbeth? No. There really isn’t. Jean-Luc Picard, supposing he were married to Lady Macbeth - which he would never have been because he is married to the Enterprise, as we all know - he would never have permitted these things to happen because he is not a violent man, and not a man who would put personal ambition before the good of others.”

Patrick Stewart Sticks Up For ‘Trekkies’

March 31, 2008 by Admin · Leave a Comment

picard.jpgVulkon alum Patrick Stewart recently came to the defense of Trekkies; in a recent interview with Newsweek. Here’s an excerpt from the interview:

When you’re onstage, aren’t you worried about weird Trekkie fans in the audience?
Oh, come on, that’s just a silly thing to say.

But they are weird.
How many do you know personally? You couldn’t be more wrong. Here’s the thing: if you say the fans are weird, that means there is something essentially weird about the show, and there is nothing weird about it. I’m very passionate when people like you snigger.

Now that’s what I’m talking about…for the full interview CLICK HERE.
